Did you know that the popular racket sport padel tennis was a siesta-inspired invention?
In 1969, in Acapulco, Enrique Corcuera had a briliant idea to create a new version of tennis. Frustrated by his daughter Bibiana’s racket hitting the wall doing his afternoon siesta, he built a court for her to play. He added walls and a net, giving birth to the first padel tennis court! From siesta to sport, the rest is history!
Fast forward to today and Padel has over 25 million players in more than 90 countries worldwide. It’s amazing to see how a simple idea can evolve into global phenomenon.
